Istanbul layover tour: airport pickup, licensed guide and a safe return margin

A layover is quoted by hours of service, counted from pickup at the terminal to drop-off back at the terminal. The three usual bands:

Travel time comes out of each band: from IST, the historic centre is more than forty kilometres away and the journey depends on traffic; from SAW, on the Asian shore, the distance is similar and crossing the Bosphorus adds time at rush hour. The quotation states how many sightseeing hours are left for your specific connection.

Services included: pickup at the terminal with a sign in the passenger's name, a private vehicle with driver for the whole service, a licensed Spanish- or English-speaking guide and the entrance tickets to the monuments marked in the programme. Meals are not included unless marked, and neither is anything not stated in writing.

A layover is quoted within 24 business hours from the moment we have the complete details. The agency receives the net price and sets its selling price; a traveller who asks directly receives the price of the service. The details needed:

• Arrival flight and departure flight: number, airport (IST or SAW), landing time and take-off time. From those two the real time on the ground is calculated.
• Nationality of each passenger, because it decides whether they can leave the airport with or without a visa (see below).
• Number of passengers and the age of children, for the vehicle and the tickets.
• Guide language and whether lunch should be included.
• Luggage: whether it is checked through to the final destination or the passenger carries it.
• What they most want to see, if they have a preference; with only a few hours you choose one thing rather than cram several in.

The proposal states the pickup time, the possible route, the return time to the terminal and the price; it also states, when the connection is too short to leave safely, that we do not recommend the service. We do not set a minimum number of hours on this page because it depends on the airport, the day of the week and the flight times: each layover is calculated on its own.

Requests go through the quotation form, with the flights in the message field, or by e-mail or WhatsApp.

The guide or the driver waits for the passenger in the arrivals area of the terminal with a sign in their name, against the confirmed flight; if the aircraft arrives late, the service adjusts and, if the delay leaves no time to go out, the passenger is told before passing through immigration. During the service there is an emergency phone line answered around the clock.

What decides a well-operated layover:

• The return time is set in the proposal for each terminal and each flight, with a margin for traffic and for the security and passport control of the international departure.
• The visiting rules of Hagia Sophia may change without notice and pause during prayer times, especially on Friday at midday; working mosques require shoulders and knees to be covered and shoes to be removed. When the visit coincides, it is explained from outside and the timing is reordered.
• Museums have a weekly closing day and different summer and winter hours; the route of each layover is arranged with the day's calendar.
• Luggage. Hand luggage travels with the passenger in the private vehicle; luggage checked through to the final destination stays at the airport. It is worth checking with the airline how it is checked before booking the layover.
• During the religious holidays (Ramazan Bayramı and Kurban Bayramı, on moving dates) the hours of monuments and shops change and traffic grows; the proposal says so when the date coincides.

Documents to leave the airport

Leaving the international transit area means entering Turkey, and the entry rules of each passport apply. According to the official page of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on visas for foreigners, ordinary passport holders from Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Chile and Peru are exempt from a visa for stays of up to 90 days; those from Mexico need a visa, which can be obtained as a 30-day single-entry e-Visa on the official site evisa.gov.tr or at Turkish missions. Turkey also requires a passport valid for at least 60 days beyond the stay. Verified on 23 September 2026 at mfa.gov.tr; the rule may change and the final check is the traveller's responsibility before booking.

A layover is a stand-alone service and is governed by the terms published on the agents page: payment by bank transfer or credit card (with a 3% surcharge on card payments), 30% deposit at confirmation and, for bookings made 30 days or less before the service — the usual case for a layover — the full amount at confirmation. The cancellation scale is the general one: 100% at 30 days or less and in case of no-show. If the arrival flight is cancelled or diverted and the passenger does not reach Istanbul, say so as soon as possible on the emergency line; the proposal details how that case is handled before booking.
